Book: The Best Companion in the Loneliness of Youth

✒️ Mufti Muhammad Tasleem ud Din Al-Mahmoodi

Youth is a season in which dreams are fresh and emotions are too. It is that period of life when the heart naturally gravitates towards everything new and shiny. Thoughts are stormy, emotions are uncontrollable, and the colorful streets of life beckon us from all sides. These are the moments when a person's steps can turn in any direction—towards the light or towards the darkness.

In such emerging moments of youth, when the heart's ship was ready to stray into the sea of desires, we made a decision—a decision that became the most precious asset of life. We bid farewell to the temporary glitter of the world, aimless gatherings, and fleeting joys, and embraced a companionship that supported us, refined us, and taught us the true purpose of life. We made the company of books our companion.

For us, a book was not just a collection of paper pages, but a silent teacher, a loyal friend, and a sincere guide. It was a companion who never gossiped, never cheated, and never turned away from us. When the world was making noise, the book gave us silence; when thoughts were getting tangled, the book untangled them; when the heart was breaking, the book brought it together.

In the company of books, we learned that the real attraction is not in the lights of the markets or the laughter of temporary friends, but in the pearls of knowledge that make our character, thought, and action golden. These were the moments when, in the silence of the night, in the dim light of a lamp, turning the pages of a book gave us a peace like a cool breeze on the seashore.

Today, when we look back, we realize that the relationship we formed with the book was not just a hobby but a decision that determined the direction of life. The changing circumstances of the world, the comings and goings of friends, the ups and downs of time—all passed, but the companionship of the book still remains. It is still the best companion in our loneliness, the answer to our questions, and the lamp of our thinking.

In the end, it would not be wrong to say that the greatest success of youth is not how many colorful moments we spent, but how many impactful moments we preserved and absorbed into our personality. And for us, those moments, that capital, are the moments spent in the love of books.
