Some meetings in life appear very ordinary, but they hide a deep meaning within themselves. This incident was also one such meeting.
January 2, 2026, was an ordinary day for me. A few people were talking in the gathering, and the atmosphere was filled with formal politeness and the traditional color of social interaction. People were busy greeting each other, and I also stepped forward to greet an acquaintance according to the demands of etiquette.
I received the greeting, but the moment that followed was extraordinary.
The person in front of me looked at me with a long and deep gaze. It wasn't just looking, but it felt like someone was doing a silent measurement or 'assessment'. They slowly looked at me from head to toe, and then slightly nodded their head. There was a strange message in that short movement—a message in which words were missing but a deep feeling was definitely present.
That moment passed, but its echo remained in my heart and mind. I left there with silence and dignity, but for the next five or six days, that scene kept appearing on the screen of my mind from time to time. Those sharp eyes, that silent nod, and that invisible psychological pressure... it was an incomplete meeting.
Then, for a moment, I asked myself: "Can someone's gaze really determine a person's worth?"
My answer also emerged from the womb of this question.
The Path to Spiritual Peace
Islam teaches us that the real source of honor and peace is only the ذات (Zaat) of Allah. When a person says with a sincere heart:
"حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ"
(Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs)
Then a wave of extraordinary satisfaction runs through the heart. Similarly, two short but powerful Surahs of the Quran, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas, provide a strong spiritual shield to protect a person from envy, the evil eye, and negative influences. When the heart comes under the protection of Allah, people's attitudes lose their effect.
Psychological Awareness and Physical Behavior
According to psychology, sometimes an 'incomplete' event comes to mind again and again because the human brain wants to complete it. This is called the Zeigarnik Effect. In such a situation, your confident body language is your most effective and silent weapon.
Instead of adopting a defensive posture, keep your shoulders balanced and straight; instead of looking into the eyes of the person in front of you, look at the middle of their forehead. This action unconsciously makes the opponent feel that you are not under their influence, but rather they are forced to find flaws in their own existence. Remember, your dignified silence and an indifferent smile are enough to crush the arrogance of the person in front of you and to complete that 'incomplete event'.
The Real Victory of Capacity
In the journey of life, we keep meeting people who try to make others feel weak with their gazes or attitudes. But the real greatness is not in responding to every behavior, but the real victory is in not making our peace and self-respect dependent on someone else's behavior.
When an eagle flies in the heights of the sky, the dust rising from the ground cannot affect its flight. Similarly, the sharp eyes of people cannot diminish the dignity of a person who recognizes their worth. In fact, this is the moment when the real test is of the eyes of the envious and your dignity.
