Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu

The virtue of eating Sehri (pre-dawn meal) in Ramadan and its blessings are frequently mentioned in the blessed Hadiths. Because the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would invariably start his fast by eating Sehri and urged others to eat Sehri as well. As proven by the following blessed Hadiths:

1. Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

TASAHHAROO FAINNA FIS SAHOORI BARAKATAN.

Muslim, Al-Sahih, Kitab al-Siyam, Bab Fadl al-Sahur wa Ta'kid Istihbabihi, 2:770, No: 1095

"Eat Sehri because there is blessing in Sehri."

2. Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

AS-SUHOORU AKLUHU BARAKATUN FALA TAD'OOHU.

Ahmad bin Hanbal, Al-Musnad, 3:12, No: 11102

"Sehri is all blessing, do not abandon it."

3. Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said:

FAINNALLAHA WA MALAIKATAHU YUSALLOONA ALA AL-MUTASAHHIREEN.

Ahmad bin Hanbal, Al-Musnad, 3:12, No: 11102

"Allah Almighty and His angels send down their blessings on those who eat Sehri."

4. Hazrat Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

FASLU MA BAINA SIYAMINA WA SIYAMI AHLIL KITABI, AKLATU AS-SAHAR.

Muslim, Al-Sahih, Kitab al-Siyam, Bab Fadl al-Sahur wa Ta'kid Istihbabihi, 2:771, No: 1096

"The difference between our fasting and the fasting of the People of the Book is eating Sehri."

5. Hazrat Irbad bin Sariya (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that I heard the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying:

WA HUWA YAD'OO ILA AS-SUHOORI FI SHAHRI RAMADAN, FAQALA: HALUMMOO ILA AL-GHADAA'I AL-MUBARAKI.

1. Ibn Hibban, Al-Sahih, 8:244, No: 3465
2. Baihaqi, Al-Sunan Al-Kubra, 6:23, No: 7905

"He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would call for Sehri in the month of Ramadan and say: Come to the blessed morning meal."

Sehri undoubtedly holds an important place in fasting. Apart from spiritual blessings, Sehri strengthens the fast during the day. Because of this, there is more desire to work during the fast. Moreover, Sehri is also related to staying awake at night because this is a time for remembrance and prayer, in which the blessings of Allah Almighty descend and it becomes a cause for the acceptance of prayer and forgiveness.
