Hadith Number: 349

Hadith Number: 349

Narrated Yahya bin Bukair, he said: Narrated Laith, from Yunus, from Ibn Shihab,
from Anas bin Malik, he said: Abu Dharr used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
said: The roof of my house was opened while I was in Mecca,
and Jibreel (peace and blessings be upon him) descended and opened my chest, then washed it with Zamzam water, then brought a golden tray filled with wisdom and faith, and poured it into my chest, then closed it,
then he took my hand and ascended with me to the lowest heaven. When I came to the lowest heaven, Jibreel said to the gatekeeper of the heaven: Open.
He said: Who is this? He said: This is Jibreel.
He said: Is there anyone with you? He said: Yes, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is with me.
He said: Has he been sent for? He said: Yes. When he opened, we ascended to the lowest heaven, and there was a man sitting, with crowds on his right and crowds on his left. When he looked towards his right, he laughed, and when he looked towards his left, he wept,
He said: Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son!
I said to Jibreel: Who is this?
He said: This is Aadam, and these crowds on his right and left are the souls of his children. The people on the right are the people of Paradise, and the crowds on his left are the people of Hell?
When he looked to his right, he laughed, and when he looked to his left, he wept.
Until he ascended with me to the second heaven,
He said to its gatekeeper: Open. The gatekeeper said to him the same as the first one said, then he opened.
Anas said: He mentioned that he found Aadam, Idris, Musa, Isa, and Ibrahim, peace be upon them, in the heavens,
but he did not specify how their positions were, except that he mentioned that he found Aadam in the lowest heaven and Ibrahim in the sixth heaven.
Anas said: When Jibreel passed by Idris with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he said: Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother.
I said: Who is this? He said: This is Idris.
Then I passed by Musa, and he said: Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous brother. I said: Who is this? He said: This is Musa.
Then I passed by Isa, and he said: Welcome to the righteous brother and the righteous Prophet. I said: Who is this? He said: This is Isa.
Then I passed by Ibrahim, and he said: Welcome to the righteous Prophet and the righteous son. I said: Who is this? He said: This is Ibrahim, peace be upon him.

Ibn Shihab said: Ibn Hazm informed me that Ibn Abbas and Abu Habba al-Ansari used to say:
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Then I was ascended until I appeared at a level where I heard the scratching of pens. Ibn Hazm said, and Anas bin Malik: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Then Allah made fifty prayers obligatory upon my Ummah. I returned with that until I passed by Musa, and he said: What has Allah made obligatory upon your Ummah?
I said: He has made fifty prayers obligatory.
He said: Return to your Lord, for your Ummah cannot bear that.
So I returned and He reduced half of it.
I returned to Musa and said: He has reduced half of it. He said: Return to your Lord, for your Ummah cannot bear it. So I returned and He reduced half of it. I returned to him, and he said: Return to your Lord, for your Ummah cannot bear that. So I returned to Him, and He said: They are five, and they are fifty (in reward). My word will not be changed. So I returned to Musa, and he said: Return to your Lord. But I said: I am ashamed before my Lord.
Then he took me away until he brought me to Sidrat al-Muntaha,
and it was covered with colors that I do not know what they were. Then I was admitted to Paradise, and there were strings of pearls in it, and its soil was musk.

Chapter: Chapter: Regarding how prayer was made obligatory during the Night Journey (Shab-e-Meraj)?
Hadith Number: 349
Translation:
Yahya bin Bukair narrated to us, he said: Laith bin Saad narrated to us through Yunus, he narrated from Ibn Shihab, he narrated from Anas bin Malik, he said that Abu Dharr Ghiffari (may Allah be pleased with him) used to narrate this hadith that
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that the roof of my house was opened, at that time I was in Mecca. Then Jibreel (peace be upon him) descended and opened my chest. Then he washed it with Zamzam water. Then he brought a golden tray filled with wisdom and faith. He put it in my chest, then closed the chest,
Then he took my hand and took me towards the sky.

When I reached the first heaven, Jibreel (peace be upon him)
said to the gatekeeper of the heaven, open.
He asked, who are you?
He replied that Jibreel, then he asked if there was anyone else with you?
He replied, yes, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is with me. He asked if you were sent to call him? He said, yes! Then when he opened the door, we ascended to the first heaven,
There we saw a person sitting. On his right side were some groups of people and some groups on the left side. When he looked to his right, he smiled and when he looked to his left, he cried. When he saw me, he said, welcome, you have come well. Righteous Prophet and righteous son!
I asked Jibreel (peace be upon him) who is this? He said that this is Aadam (peace be upon him) and the groups on his right and left are the souls of his sons.
The groups on the right are the people of Paradise and the groups on the left are the souls of Hell. Therefore, when he looks to his right, he smiles with joy and when he looks to his left, he cries (with sorrow).

Then Jibreel took me to the second heaven and said to its gatekeeper to open. The gatekeeper of that heaven also asked like the first one, then he opened.
Anas said that Abu Dharr mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) i.e. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found Aadam, Idris, Musa, Isa and Ibrahim (peace be upon them) present in the sky. And Abu Dharr did not mention the location of each one. However, he mentioned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found Aadam in the first heaven and Ibrahim (peace be upon him) in the sixth heaven.
Anas narrated that when Jibreel (peace be upon him) passed by Idris (peace be upon him) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So he said, welcome, you have come well, righteous Prophet and righteous brother.
I asked who is this? He replied that this is Idris (peace be upon him).
Then I reached Musa (peace be upon him), so he said, welcome, you have come well, righteous Prophet and righteous brother.
I asked who is this? Jibreel (peace be upon him) told me that this is Musa (peace be upon him).
Then I reached Isa (peace be upon him), he said, welcome, you have come well, righteous Prophet and righteous brother. I asked who is this? Jibreel (peace be upon him) told me that this is Isa (peace be upon him).
Then I reached Ibrahim (peace be upon him). He said, welcome, you have come well, righteous Prophet and righteous son. I asked who is this? Jibreel (peace be upon him) told me that this is Ibrahim (peace be upon him).

Ibn Shihab said that Abu Bakr bin Hazm informed me that Abdullah bin Abbas and Abu Habba al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, then Jibreel (peace be upon him) took me up, now I reached that high place where I heard the sound of the pen (which was the sound of the pens of the writing angels) Ibn Hazm (from his Sheikh) and Anas bin Malik narrated from Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. So Allah Almighty made fifty times of prayers obligatory on my Ummah. I returned with this order. When I reached Musa (peace be upon him), he asked what has Allah made obligatory on your Ummah? I said that fifty times of prayers have been made obligatory. He said that you should go back to the court of your Lord. Because your Ummah does not have the strength to perform so many prayers.
I went back to the court of the Lord of Glory, so Allah reduced a part of it, then I came to Musa (peace be upon him) and said that a part has been reduced, he said to go again because your Ummah does not have the strength to bear it.
Then I appeared in the court of the Lord of Glory. Then a part was reduced. When I reached Musa (peace be upon him), he said to go again to the court of your Lord, because your Ummah will not be able to bear it, then I came and went again and again
Then Allah Almighty said that these prayers are five (in practice) and (equal to) fifty (in reward). My word will not be changed. Now I came to Musa (peace be upon him), then he said again to go to your Lord. But I said that I am now ashamed of my Lord. Then Jibreel took me to Sidrat al-Muntaha, which was covered with many kinds of colors. About which I did not know what they were. After that I was taken to Paradise, I saw that there were necklaces of pearls in it and its soil was musk.

And Allah knows the best
