A scholar, seeing an old woman spinning on a spinning wheel, said, "Old woman! Have you spent your whole life spinning, or have you recognized your God at all?"
The old woman replied, "Son, I have seen everything in this spinning wheel." He said, "Old woman! Tell me, does God exist or not?" The old woman replied, "Yes, God exists every moment, day and night, all the time."
The scholar asked, "But what is the proof?" The old woman said, "The proof is this spinning wheel of mine." The scholar asked, "How so?" She said, "It is like this: as long as I keep running this spinning wheel, it keeps running smoothly. And if this small spinning wheel needs someone to run it all the time, then how can the huge spinning wheels of the earth and sky, the moon, and the sun not need someone to run them?"
So, just as my wooden spinning wheel needs someone to run it, so too does the spinning wheel of the earth and sky need someone to run it. As long as He keeps running it, all these spinning wheels will keep running, and when He lets go, they will stop. But we have never seen the earth and sky, the moon, and the sun stop, so we know that the One who runs them is present every moment."
The Maulvi Sahib asked, "Okay, tell me, is the one who runs the spinning wheel of the heavens and the earth one or two?"
The old woman replied, "There is one, and the proof of this claim is also this spinning wheel of mine. Because when I run this spinning wheel in one direction according to my will, this spinning wheel runs in the same direction according to my will. If there was another runner, then either she would help me and run the spinning wheel according to my will, then the speed of the spinning wheel would increase, and there would be a difference in the speed of this spinning wheel, and the result would not be achieved. Or, if she ran it against my will and in the opposite direction to my running, then this spinning wheel would stop running or break. But that does not happen because there is no other runner. Similarly, if there was another runner of the heavens and the earth, then the speed of the heavenly spinning wheel would definitely increase, and there would be a difference in the system of day and night, or it would stop running or break. Since this is not the case, then surely there is only one runner of the spinning wheel of the heavens and the earth."
Lesson: Everything in the world bears witness to the existence of its Creator and His Oneness, but a sound mind is needed.
