Title: Obedience to Allah and Service to Mother: The Lesson of Hazrat Bayazid Bastami (R.A.)

Quranic Command:

Allah Almighty says:

"And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." > (Surah Bani Israel, Verse: 23)

The Story of Bayazid Bastami (R.A.):

The life of Hazrat Bayazid Bastami (R.A.), a great star in the world of Sufism, was a living picture of this verse. One severely cold night, when it was snowing, his elderly mother asked for water. He (R.A.) picked up the pitcher and went outside and saw that it was so cold that the water in the pitcher had frozen. He immediately ran to the well, filled the water, and brought it, but when he reached the room, he saw that his mother had fallen asleep again.

He (R.A.) had two options: either put the water down and go to sleep, or wake his mother up. But he (R.A.) thought that if I went to sleep and my mother woke up, she would have to wait in the intensity of thirst, and if I woke her up, it would disturb her comfortable sleep, which would be disrespectful.

Therefore, he (R.A.) stood at the head of the bed holding the glass of water in his hand. The whole night passed, the cold was so severe that the glass stuck to his (R.A.) hand and his fingers went numb. When the dawn broke and his mother woke up, she found her son standing respectfully in the same way. When she learned that her son had been standing in the freezing cold all night just for a glass of water, her heart was filled. She raised her hands and prayed: "O Allah! I am pleased with my son, so be pleased with him too and grant him a high position."

The elders say that the status of Sainthood that Bayazid (R.A.) received was more due to the sincerity of the prayer of that one night than the Nafl prayers of his nights.

Who consider serving their parents as ascension

He stood all night holding the glass and became a saint

The pleasure of the Lord is hidden in the pleasure of the mother
