Selection of Study - Protecting Faith or Wasting Time?
Article (62) Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Today's human studies a lot, but the question is, is he reading correctly? In the present era, there is an abundance of writing, books are countless, but not every writing benefits the reader. Some writings injure morality, some present sin
in a beautiful way, and some are such that they neither increase knowledge nor expand thought - they only become a silent waste of time. It is a pity that even those who consider themselves civilized, conscious and religious are swept away in this flood.;
It is a bitter truth that today a large number of people are busy reading such writings in which there is nothing but stories, or such material which has no benefit in this world, nor any weight in the hereafter. Some writings certainly evoke temporary emotions, but do not build the foundation of knowledge, do not polish the consciousness.
Despite this, if an ordinary reader reads various types of writings and his knowledge is increasing somewhat, then he is certainly fortunate. In such a situation, every reader should be grateful to the author, writer or essayist from whom he benefits, and remember him in his prayers - because sharing knowledge is Sadaqah Jariyah.
But!
If you are not just an ordinary reader, but a conscious, serious and thoughtful person
If you do not count yourself among every Tom, Dick and Harry
Then mere recreational, superficial or ineffective study is not worthy of you.
For such thoughtful people, my sincere advice is that in the changing world, they should make those writings and books a part of their study which: Strengthen the faith. Strengthen the belief of Islam. Provide a reasoned answer to the rising intellectual questions. And provide such points and arguments in the light of which you can represent the truth in every dusty field.
Or - at least it should be enough that a person can provide correct guidance in his surrounding society and community, and become a seeker of Allah Almighty's pleasure through his actions and knowledge.
Because remember!
Tomorrow this question will not only be asked of others, but also of us: Where were you when faith and Islam were being attacked? Why were you silent when poisonous writings were being written against Allah and His Messenger ﷺ? Why did you not recognize the use of your pen, your study and your consciousness? Today, the number of writings against faith and Islam has increased so much that we cannot even estimate it correctly. In such a situation, remaining silent, wasting time in frivolous studies, is actually an escape from one's responsibility.
May Allah let this matter sink into our hearts and minds, and may our study not be just a hobby but a means of protecting faith.
Ameen. Ya Rabb al-Alamin
