That Day in Court When Eyes Became Moist
ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ۔
Generally, when two brothers are seen in the dock in the world, people immediately assume that the dispute is about inheritance or land.
But this true story from Saudi Arabia tells us that sometimes even in courts, love, loyalty, and service fight for their right.
An old man, Hazzam Al-Ghamdi, was standing in court not to snatch away the right to serve his weak mother, but to
maintain it.
On the other hand, his younger brother was also present with the same passion. Both had the same goal—to keep their mother with them and serve her.
Hazzam said in a choked voice that he had been his mother's support for years and that the peace of his life was at his mother's feet. The younger brother said in a trembling voice that Hazzam was now old himself, and he wanted to take the burden of serving his mother on his shoulders so that his elder brother could rest a bit.
This moment was such that not silence, but love was speaking in the court.
The decision was not easy. The judge called the mother and asked which son she wanted to live with. The frail mother said with trembling lips and tearful eyes:
“How can I choose?
Both my sons are my eyes…
If I choose one, I will be deprived of the other.”
Hearing this, the atmosphere of the court filled with tearful eyes.
Since the mother could not decide, the court had to.
Considering the younger brother's better health, the judge entrusted the care of the mother to him.
When the verdict was announced, Hazzam's steps faltered. He sobbed right there in the court—not because he had lost the case, but because he had lost the precious opportunity to serve his mother in her last days.
This case was not about sending the mother with someone, but about both sons laying down at their mother's feet. This decision of love proved that some losses are greater than victory.
It is prayed that Allah Almighty grant us all the ability to serve our parents with the same sincerity and love.
Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
