The pen is not merely a tool; it is a volcano 🔥 that remains seemingly silent, but when it erupts, it engulfs ages. The glitter of the sword certainly dazzles the eyes, but the strike of the pen descends into the depths of the soul, burning human thought to ashes. The blow of the sword pierces the body, but the blow of the pen leaves such an imprint on the chest of history that it can never be erased.
In the battlefield, swords clash ⚔️ and only blood flows, but when the pen comes into motion, empires are shaken. It is that silent doomsday whose echo is heard for centuries. In courts, when the pen 🖋️ moves, its tip becomes like a thin line drawn between life and death; in one moment, the same pen puts a noose around a person's neck, and in the next moment, it opens the door of freedom for an innocent person. It feels as if not the ink of the pen, but the blood of destiny is flowing.
The pen is greater than a sharp sword, because the effect of the sword is temporary, but the effect of the pen is permanent.
It ignites sparks of rebellion in minds, lights lamps of hope in hearts, and changes the direction of the destiny of nations. Great revolutions, which appear to be the result of wars, are actually born from the tip of the pen. It is that power that can take a person to the heights of glory and also push them into the depths of decline.
Islam has also acknowledged the same awe and greatness of the pen. In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty, by swearing by the pen, has shaken man, saying that it is not an ordinary thing, but a force before which the edge of the sword also fades. It is both a trust and a test, through which the truth and falsehood are decided.
If the pen supports the truth, it brings a flood of light by piercing through the darkness, and if it is sold into the hands of lies, the same pen becomes a poisoned dagger and pierces the chest of society. One movement of it can take a person to the heights, and one slip of it can bring the entire nation to the brink of destruction.
The poet of the East, Hazrat Allama Iqbal ؒ, describes the power of the pen in his poem:
Qalam goyad ke man Shah-e-Jahanam
Qalam az dast-e-Shahan bhi sitanam
👉 Translation:
The pen says that I am the king of the world,
I also snatch authority from the hands of kings.
