Mufassir-e-Quran Hazrat Maulana Sufi Abdul Hameed Khan Swati states:
"Regarding the corruption and deterioration of civilization, Imam Waliullah writes in "Hujjat-ul-Allah al-Baligha," in the chapter "Al-Rusoom Al-Sairah": "Sometimes it happens that people adhere to correct laws, but falsehood also mixes with them, and because of this, correct laws become confused for the people. This happens when people come to power in the country who have minor opinions (personal desires and interests) that prevail, and these people completely abandon the overall interests (public benefit). Therefore, sometimes these people are inclined towards the seven deadly sins (actions like beasts), such as robbery, looting, or indulging in lustful acts, or they adopt harmful professions, such as usurious transactions, reducing in measurement and weight, or habits that are based on extravagance, or they adopt things that are distracting, and by adopting them, many things in matters of livelihood will have to be neglected, and these will also make them neglectful of the afterlife, such as musical instruments and singing, playing chess, pursuing hunting
becoming, pigeon flying, and other such occupations." (Maqalat-e-Swati, p. 443)
