Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says that a man went to pray but did not return. His wife went to Hazrat Umar (R.A.) and said... You asked his tribe to confirm it. Everyone confirmed it. Hazrat Umar (R.A.) told her to wait for four years. After that, the woman remarried. After some time, the first husband also came. This matter was brought before Hazrat Umar (R.A.) again, so he said:
When one of you has been missing for a long time and no one knows whether he is alive or not? The man said, I had an excuse. He said what is the excuse? I went to pray Isha and a jinn met me and took me away... I stayed among them for a long time... After a few days, the believing jinn attacked them and they prevailed and captured them. I was among the prisoners. I was asked what is your religion? I said, I am a Muslim... They released me and said, either stay here or go back. I preferred to go back... So he did one with me and left me here...
Hazrat Umar (R.A.) gave them the option that if they wanted, they could take their wife or if they wanted, they could remain married to the same person.
