Who are the people whose Eid is truly Eid?
It is strongly hoped that you are all well. We are all well aware of the fact that the blessed and joyous moments of Eid are very near, as if only a few hours, a few moments, or perhaps just one day remains. At such a delicate and important moment, the heart desires to present some things to you, so that we all not only prepare for Eid but also deeply examine our deeds, our intentions, and our worship, and understand for whom the real joy of Eid is.
The first and most important thing is, who deserves to celebrate Eid? Who are the people whose Eid is truly Eid, and for whom does it remain only a ritual or outward joy? If we ask our hearts honestly, the answer is very clear: Eid belongs to those who have spent the holy and blessed days of Ramadan sincerely for the sake of Allah. Those fortunate people who fasted with sincerity of heart, adhered to the commands of Sharia, offered the five daily prayers on time, made arrangements for congregational prayers, offered Taraweeh continuously and did not consider even one Rak'ah lightly, and those who attained the blessing of Itikaf in the last ten days and kept themselves busy in the worship of Allah, surely these are the people for whom Eid is a real joy and a form of reward.
Not only this, but those gentlemen who controlled their desires throughout the month of Ramadan, tried to avoid sins, submitted their desires to the command of Allah, and continued to worship with complete sincerity in the obedience of Allah and His Messenger, made the recitation of the Holy Quran their routine, protected their tongue, their sight, and their heart, in fact, these are the people about whom it can be hoped that their deeds have been accepted in the court of Allah. And the truth is that Eid is an outward expression of this acceptance, as if Eid is a reward for the worship performed in Ramadan.
That is, those whose fasts were accepted, whose prayers were accepted, whose Taraweeh was accepted by Allah, whose Itikaf was purely for the sake of Allah and was accepted, and who spent the entire Ramadan within the bounds of Sharia. In reality, only these people have the right to celebrate Eid. These are the people on whose faces the joy of Eid truly shines, because their hearts are satisfied that they tried to fulfill the command of Allah.
A very sad and noteworthy aspect of our society is that we have limited religion to rituals and customs instead of taking it seriously. The original purpose of worship, its spirit, and its reality have been left far behind, while outward show and temporary emotions have taken its place. This is the reason why a person, neglecting his original responsibilities, only adopts those things that are easy, in which there is less effort and more show.
Today, there is a need for us to look inside ourselves and see what our priorities are. Do we really live for the pleasure of Allah, or have we adapted religion to suit our convenience? The truth is that when a person starts following his desires, then he slowly loses the distinction between right and wrong. He likes only that thing which is according to his temperament, no matter how weak it may be from a religious point of view.
That is why every person should take time out and silently ask his heart what the purpose of his life is? Which path is he walking on? What activities are his days and nights spent in? Are his deeds bringing him closer to Allah or taking him away from Him? These questions are seemingly simple, but if a person ponders over them honestly, it can change the direction of his entire life.
This world is a temporary abode, everything here is perishable. Neither wealth will go with you, nor fame, nor position, nor any relationship. If anything will go with a person, it will be his deeds. That is why the wise person is the one who prepares for his hereafter, takes every step thoughtfully, and remembers that he has to appear before his Lord one day.
We must also understand that reform should not be limited to oneself but should also extend its effect to one's home, one's children, and the surrounding environment. A good person is one who not only walks on the straight path himself but also becomes a source of ease and goodness for others. Establishing a good environment in the home, giving children the correct religious education, and playing a positive role in society are all included in our responsibilities.
Furthermore, a person should pay special attention to his language, his attitude, and his dealings. It often happens that worship is performed, but morals are not correct, due to which a person becomes a cause of trouble for others. Remember, gentleness, truthfulness, honesty, and good behavior are the qualities that lead a person to true success. In contrast, lying, deceit, envy, malice, and arrogance destroy a person's deeds and make him hollow from within.
Life is uncertain, it is not known when and where it will end. That is why it is wise for a person to try to improve himself in every situation, feel remorse for his sins, and turn to Allah again and again. The mercy of Allah Almighty is very vast, He accepts even a sincere repentance of His servant, provided there is sincerity in the heart and the intention is firm.
In the end, this is what I have to say: we should all worry about improving our lives, create humility within ourselves, and in every situation, give priority to the pleasure of Allah. This is the path to success, this is the source of peace, and this is the path that makes a person successful in both this world and the hereafter.
May Allah Almighty grant us all correct understanding, good deeds, and sincerity of intention, and grant us the ability to live our lives according to His pleasure. Amen.
