The Mobile Phone: Between a Blessing and a Curse

In our era, the mobile phone has become one of the greatest blessings if used well, and one of the worst trials if misused. It is like a sword, either carried to ward off evil and defend the truth, or wielded against oneself to destroy it and distance it from good.

So, when is the phone beneficial?

It is beneficial if it is used as a means of knowledge and learning, a channel for compassionate communication between family and friends, and a platform for spreading virtues and calling to God with wisdom and good advice. And if it is used with balance, and its time is organized with awareness and moderation, it becomes a tool for building, not destruction.

And when does the phone become a burden on its owner?

If it becomes a tool for amusement and idle talk, wasting time in vain, and is used to look at what is forbidden, or to listen to what corrupts the heart, or to be preoccupied with what distances the servant from the remembrance of God, and cuts him off from his prayers and duties, then the phone turns from a blessing into a curse, and from a tool of benefit to a means of destruction.

So, the wise person is the one who makes the phone a servant to him, not a master over him, and a means for good, not a cause for evil.

And whoever wastes his life on the trivialities of the phone has lost a treasure that cannot be compensated.
