Your ﷺ's marital life

‌۔ From the pen of Muhammad Amir-ul-Islam:

The most radiant and perfect personality of Islam is the blessed being of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Every aspect of your ﷺ's life is a beacon of guidance for humanity. Your marital life is also a complete and comprehensive example, full of love, mercy, justice, patience, and good conduct.

1. Beginning of marital life; The marital life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ began with Hazrat Khadija (RA). Your ﷺ's age at that time was 25 years and Hazrat Khadija's (RA) age was 40 years. She was a respected, wealthy, and virtuous woman. Your ﷺ married her and spent an exemplary marital life for about 25 years. During this time, neither did you ﷺ marry anyone else nor did you remarry while Hazrat Khadija (RA) was alive. This is a great example of your ﷺ's love and sincerity.

2. Number and wisdom of Azwaj-e-Mutahharat (RA);

After the death of Hazrat Khadija (RA), you ﷺ married several times at different times. A total of eleven Azwaj-e-Mutahharat (RA) came into your ﷺ's marriage. Most of them were widows, and there were various reasons behind marrying them:

»Supporting widows and comforting them;

»Strengthening the Islamic call by establishing relationships with different tribes

»Spreading religious teachings through women

»Teaching the Ummah the rules of domestic and marital life.

3. Your ﷺ's good treatment with Azwaj-e-Mutahharat (RA); Love and tenderness were prominent in your ﷺ's marital life. The Holy Quran has also called your ﷺ's way of acting "Rahmat-ul-lil-Alameen" (Mercy for all the worlds). Azwaj-e-Mutahharat (RA) say that: Your ﷺ was good-natured at home, spoke with a smile, and never treated anyone harshly. Your ﷺ used to sew your own clothes, repair shoes, and help with household chores. Your ﷺ treated each wife with justice and fairness, and each had their appointed day. Your ﷺ never raised your hand on your wives, nor did you speak ill of them.

4. Your ﷺ's love and sincerity; The greatest aspect of your ﷺ's sincerity and love was with Hazrat Khadija (RA). Even after her death, you ﷺ often mentioned her, sent gifts to her friends, and used to say:

"There was no one like Khadija."

This love is proof that you ﷺ were at the highest level of sincerity and love in your marital life.

5. Moderation in domestic life; You ﷺ lived a very simple and humble life. Sometimes the stove was not lit in the house for several days. Despite this, you ﷺ kept your wives happy with gratitude and patience. Your ﷺ's teaching was that worldly comfort is not the real purpose, but peace of mind is in faith and love.

Lessons for the Ummah from marital life; The marital life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ teaches us that: There should be love, compassion, and kindness between husband and wife. The husband should be gentle and just with his wife.

Spending time with the wife, joking, and showing good manners is Sunnah. Cooperation in household responsibilities is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Patience in difficulties and trust in Allah is the real success.

The marital life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is a perfect example for humanity. You ﷺ presented a practical example of love, justice, patience, and loyalty with your wives (RA), which is guidance for every Muslim man and woman until the Day of Judgment. Today, if Muslims want to make their marital life successful and peaceful, then they will have to make the behavior of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his wives a part of their lives. May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to adopt the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in our lives and to treat our family members well and deal with them in the same way as the life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ
