*Masail of Intention for Fasting*
Intention is the name of the heart's desire. If the heart intends that today is my fast, then the fast is valid. It is not necessary to express the intention of fasting verbally, although it is better. Please note a few issues regarding the intention of fasting.
*Intention for the Fast of Ramadan*
It is best to make the intention for the fasts of Ramadan before dawn. If there was no intention to fast for Ramadan before dawn, and the intention occurred after dawn, then if nothing has been eaten or drunk, it is permissible to make the intention to fast before the Shariah midday. Shariah midday is when the time from dawn to sunset is divided into two parts. The intention should be made before the first half.
Intention for Qada, Unspecified Vow, and Atonement Fasts
It is necessary to make the intention for Qada, unspecified vow, and atonement fasts before dawn. If the intention is made after that, it will not be considered valid according to Sharia.
*Intention for Nafl and Specified Vow Fasts*
The ruling on the intention for Nafl and specified vow fasts is the same as for the fasts of Ramadan, meaning that if the intention is not made before dawn, it can be made before the Shariah midday, provided that nothing has been eaten or drunk after dawn.
