Mecca and Medina are those sacred places whose dust is a precious treasure for the people of faith. The greatest desire in every Muslim's life is to be blessed with the opportunity to visit the Roza-e-Rasool (PBUH).
Allah Almighty is the owner and capable of everything. He calls some with true love, and some through outward means. Going to Mecca and Medina seems possible for everyone outwardly, but the real calling is recognized by the state of the heart, not just by physical presence.
But a question often arises in hearts:
If Allah Almighty calls His lovers to Medina Sharif, then how do those who are worldly, fame-loving, or wealthy, like YouTube stars, go to the Haramain Sharifain?
The answer to this question lies in the difference between outward and spiritual calling.
Going through outward means and being truly called
Allah Almighty has made the world a world of means. Anyone can go for Hajj or Umrah through money, visa, and resources.
But being called to Medina is not just an outward journey; it is a journey of the heart.
In the Quran, Allah Almighty says:
وَمَن يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَن يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ
Whomever Allah wills to guide, He opens his breast to Islam.
(Al-An'am: 125)
Similarly, whomever Allah blesses with true love of Mustafa (PBUH), their heart automatically starts to be drawn towards Medina.
Being called has two meanings:
Outward calling:
That is, someone has a visa, money, time, and health, and they go for Hajj or Umrah. This comes within the realm of means.
True and spiritual calling:
That is, Allah Almighty ignites the spark of love of Mustafa (PBUH) in someone's heart, and fills their heart with the remembrance and longing for the Haramain Sharifain. This is a matter of love and divine grace, which cannot be obtained through wealth or influence.
The call of love is higher than wealth.
To go to Medina, you need not only a passport but also permission to be present in your heart.
A worldly person can go, but a lover is one who reaches there with respect, tears in their eyes, and love for the Prophet (PBUH) in their heart.
Going to Mecca and Medina is not proof of love itself, but an examination of the acceptance of love.
The real question is not who went?
But what changed in their heart when they returned?
Hazrat Hassan bin Sabit said:
My eyes never tire of seeing that face,
From whose beauty the moonlight took its light.
Everyone's presence is not the same
Some people go and make videos and take pictures,
And some are those who bow their heads in front of the Roza-e-Aqdas (PBUH), with Durood and Salam residing in their heartbeats.
This difference shows who was called and who just went.
It is stated in the Quran:
أنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِينَ"
Allah Almighty only accepts the deeds of the righteous.
(Al-Ma'idah: 27)
The real calling is recognized by the state of the heart
If someone has a longing for Medina, a desire to visit the Roza, the pleasure of Durood, and a wish to see the Prophet (PBUH), then understand that they are being called, even if they have not gone yet.
Allama Iqbal says
Wohi hai banda-e-hur, jise hai zauq-e-Khaleeli
Ke ishq mein ho faqeeri, ghana mein hai qari
Allah Almighty calls hearts to the door of His beloved (PBUH), not bodies.
Some people do not reach even after going to Mecca and Medina,
And some remain present there with their hearts while sitting at home.
Medina Sharif is outwardly open to everyone,
But the spiritual door opens only for those whose hearts are filled with love, respect, and the fragrance of Durood.
That is why it is said:
Medina is not that in which one goes,
Medina is that which is settled in the heart.
May Allah Almighty grant us all the Ziyarat of the Haramain Sharifain, and create spiritual and true love for these holy places in our hearts. Ameen, Ya Rabb-al-Aalameen.
