Once, Janab Bahlol was present in an oasis. A merchant was passing by. He came to him, greeted him, and sat respectfully in front of him and requested with utmost respect, "Hazoor! Which commodity should I buy for trade that will bring a lot of profit?"
Janab Bahlol said, "Buy black cloth."
The merchant thanked him and walked backward and went back. He went and bought all the black cloth available in the area.
After a few days, a very important person of the city passed away. The whole city went out in search of black cloth for mourning clothes. Now all the cloth was stored with that merchant. He sold it at exorbitant prices and earned as much profit as he had not earned in his entire life and became very rich.
After some time, he was passing by somewhere on horseback. Janab Bahlol was present there. He said while sitting on the horse, "O madman! What should I buy this time?"
Bahlol said, "Buy watermelons."
He ran and bought watermelons from the whole country with all his wealth. All of them spoiled in just one week and he became penniless.
While wandering around in this miserable condition, he met Janab Bahlol and said, "What have you done to me?"
Janab Bahlol said, "I didn't do anything, it was your tone and words that did everything. When you asked with respect, you became rich, and when you were rude, you became poor."
