Allah Almighty has blessed man with many blessings, one of the greatest of which is the tongue. We should be thankful to Allah, Lord of Glory, as much as we can. The tongue is the translator of hearts and minds; it is both a balm and a dagger. Its correct use is a source of reward and a cause of success, and its misuse, such as lying, finding fault with someone, backbiting, hurting someone's feelings, etc., can destroy both our world and the hereafter. The corruption of the tongue is the root of all evils. It is better for a person to remain silent because silence is also a cause of salvation. This is why the reformation of the tongue has been declared necessary in the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The following saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is of great importance regarding the importance of the tongue:
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
*MAN KAANA YU'MINU BILLAHI WAL-YAWMIL AKHIRI FAL-YAQUL KHAYRAN AW LI-YASMUT*
Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good or remain silent.
That is, if he can use this blessing given by Allah Almighty in good deeds and speak good words with his tongue, then it is better for him, otherwise silence is better.
The speech of the believers is free from evil and full of impact. They always avoid trivialities, which is why they are also safe from calamities.
The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leaving useless talk is a sign of the goodness of a person's Islam."
Syedna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who is the best among the Muslims?" He said:
*MAN SALIMAL MUSLIMOONA MIN LISANIHI WA YADIH*
A perfect Muslim is one from whose hand and tongue other Muslims are safe.
