Miswak is not only a spiritual and religious practice but also a gift of physical and material benefits. Therefore, the beloved scholar and righteous person, Hazrat Maulana Pir Zulfiqar Ahmad Sahib Naqshbandi Mujaddidi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that:
“Once a doctor from Washington (America) said to me, 'Use miswak.' I said, 'Why?'
He said, 'Because today's modern research and scientific investigation show that when a person eats things, plasma is produced inside the mouth. Now, this plasma is not cleaned by simply rinsing the mouth. It is very important to use miswak. Generally, teeth deteriorate more while sleeping because when a person sleeps, their mouth is often closed, and it is very easy for germs to breed inside a closed mouth. Besides, during the day, a person is sometimes speaking, so the tongue is moving, sometimes eating, sometimes drinking water. Due to the movement during the day, plasma does not get a chance to die, and at night, when a person sleeps, plasma gets a chance to die. Therefore, teeth deteriorate more at night. Upon waking up in the morning, a kind of dirt and bad smell accumulates in the teeth, so it is necessary to use miswak.'
I (in my heart) thanked Allah that we follow the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace be upon him) by using miswak while sleeping at night and also performing ablution with miswak in the morning. Whenever a person uses miswak immediately after eating, they will be protected from harm. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:
Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and our life — 18
It should also be done while washing hands and after eating, even though the effects of sweetness sticking inside the mouth remain for a long time, and if one gets into the habit of rinsing at the same time, it will be eliminated.
In addition, many such incidents have been recorded in the book in which many incurable diseases, in relation to which doctors had given up, but Allah Almighty granted them healing through the blessing of miswak. (Interested people can refer to the book "Sunnah of the Prophet and Modern Science").
