Ruling on a Husband Paying Zakat on Behalf of His Wife

Zakat is obligatory on the wife due to the wealth she owns; it is not the husband's responsibility. However, the husband can pay Zakat on behalf of his wife as her representative, whether the wife gives the money and the husband spends it on her behalf in the designated areas, or the husband gives the money from his own income.
 In this case, it is necessary to inform the wife before paying the Zakat that he is paying Zakat on her behalf, because intention is necessary for the fulfillment of Zakat. As for the things owned by the wife, Zakat is not obligatory on the husband because he does not own them.
But if the husband pays it willingly and happily, the Zakat will be fulfilled.
