*In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.*
*Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.*
*The Virtue and Importance of the Month of Sha'ban*:
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) that:
''The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not fast in any month more than he did in Sha'ban. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast (almost) the entire Sha'ban and said: Do good deeds only as much as you can bear, because Allah will not tire of giving reward until you get tired.'' (Bukhari, Vol: 2)
Shab-e-Barat is a blessed night in Islam, the virtue of which is proven by many hadiths. Some people do not believe in any kind of virtue of this blessed night at all.
While some consider it equal to Shab-e-Qadr, both of these positions are incorrect.
According to the hadith, countless sinners are forgiven and criminals are pardoned on this night, and they are freed from the punishment of Hell, hence it became famous in common parlance as Shab-e-Barat.
There is no specific name for this night in the hadiths, but its virtue is described by calling it "Laylat al-Nisf min Sha'ban."
(One year's) decisions of life, death, and sustenance are made on this night.
Hazrat Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Do you know what is in this night (the fifteenth of Sha'ban)? Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: O Messenger of Allah! What is in this night? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The child who is to be born in this year is written on this night, and the name of the person who is to perish in this year from the children of Adam is written, and their deeds are taken up on this night, and their sustenance is sent down on this night. Then Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! There is no one who will enter Paradise without the mercy of Allah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: There is no one who can enter Paradise without the mercy of Allah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said this three times, so I said: You too will not be able to enter Paradise without the mercy of Allah? Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) placed his blessed hand on his head and said: And I too will not be able to go, except if Allah covers me with His mercy. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said this three times. (Narrated by Al-Bayhaqi in Al-Da'wat Al-Kabir)
And Allah knows best what is right.
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
